The Power of Showing Up

“Throughout my cancer treatment and beyond, my family wanted to thank the IWK for everything they did for us. That’s how I went from being a patient to an advocate and donor.

Hosting our own fundraiser has been healing. Turning something as overwhelming as cancer into something that helps others has given us purpose and a lot of joy.

What’s meant just as much as the money raised is what I’ve witnessed along the way. I’ve watched communities come together and decide that caring for Maritime kids and families is worth showing up for, every single time.

Right now, there are many patients who are in the trenches, fighting, exhausted, and scared. The doctors, nurses, and care teams are in the trenches, too. They need people like you, people who aren’t in the trenches right now, to stand up and work on their behalf.

I’ve watched people like you show up for the IWK because they understand that community means you don’t wait until it’s your turn to benefit. You help now, because children and women need you. Families need you.

From one warrior to another, thank you for showing up.”
